Russian communications regulator Roskomnadzor blocked the websites of four local media outlets. They were the Yekaterinburg edition of “It’s My City”, the Ingush edition of Fortanga, the Vladimir edition of Argument, the Krasnodar website Svbodonyye Media (“Free Media”) and the Kaliningrad news website Rugrad.eu. It’s My City was accused of spreading false information about the war in Ukraine. Fortanga had written about the Ingush casualties in the war and about the possible participation of Chechen forces in the conflict. Dovod was blocked under Russia’s new law criminalising so-called “fake” news and information about the operations of the country’s military. Rugrad.ru was blocked by the demand of the state prosecutor. None of the media outlets received a justification about the blocking by Roskomnadzor, though media reporting linked the decisions to the media’s coverage of the war in Ukraine.
