The former Perviy Kanal editor Marina Ovsyannikova has been charged with distributing false information about the Russian armed forces (Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). On August 10, law enforcement officers searched Ovsyannikova’s house in connection to the charge without waiting for her lawyer to arrive at the scene. The charges are related to the solitary picket that Ovsyannikova undertook on July 15, where she held a placard containing messages condemning Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. Ovsyanikova gained notoriety when, on March 14, she interrupted the live broadcast of Perviy Kanal while holding a sign that read “Stop the war.”
