Japanese journalist injured in Russian missile strike on Kyiv

On 31 December 2022, a Japanese journalist was lightly injured during a Russian missile strike on Kyiv, said the city’s mayor Vitali Klitschko. The Japanese daily Asahi Shimbun said the victim was Wataru Sekita, a member of the newspaper’s visual reporting section. The journalist was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for a minor wound he sustained to his leg. At the moment of the attack, Sekita was outside of the hotel in central Kyiv where he was staying.
