Immigration officers assault journalist

On September 1, 2023, immigration officers in Kananga, the capital city of the Kasai Central province, in DRC, assaulted journalist Soleil Ntumba Mufika, information director of the privately owned Kananga-based broadcaster Malandji and correspondent for privately owned Kinshasa-based TV broadcaster B One. The journalist was filming the eviction of an immigration service official from land that he was illegally occupying. According to reports, the assault was ordered by an immigration service director, Luhizon Zigabe, who ordered around 10 immigration officers to stop the journalist from recording. As a result of the brutalities, the journalist sustained injuries and his work equipment was damaged.
