Facebook restricted the accounts of three Russian media on its platform: Lenta.ru, Gazety.ru and RIA Novosti, Russia’s state-owned domestic news agency. Meta said the decision was taken over the media channels dissemination of what it said was state-backed disinformation about the war in Ukraine. The Russian Journalist Union calls Facebook’s decision unacceptable in a statement published on its website. In retaliation, Russia completely blocked access to Facebook within the country.
