Police in Eswatini detained Eugene Dube, journalist and editor of Swati Newsweek’s online publication, Swaziland News, in Nhlangano over an article he wrote about the public health strategy of King Mswati III during the COVID-19 pandemic. He was charged with writing ill about the king, which according to police, constitutes high treason. Dube criticised the country’s lack of social distancing measures.
