On January 14, authorities in Guinea arrested a French journalist Thomas Dietrich. The journalist was investigating the state-run fuel company Société Nationale des Pétroles (SONAP), and the assets of the Managing Director Amadou Doumbouya, following a deadly explosion at the country’s main fuel terminal that killed 24 people. A source told IPI that the journalist was expelled from the country. His laptop was confiscated by the security forces. This is the second time he has been arrested and expelled from Guinea. The first time was in 2020.
