On October 16, security forces in Conakry, Guinea, arrested and detained at least 13 journalists protesting against restrictions on accessing online news website Guinee Matin. According to reports, the news website’s access was blocked within the country to its readers and subscribers in mid-August. The police used tear gas to disperse the journalists and brought those arrested before a court. The court charged them with illegal gathering and released them, pending setting the date of their next court appearance.
