Aurelio Cabrera Campos, founder and director of a weekly news magazine El Gráfico de la Sierra, was shot several times while driving near Huauchinango, in the state of Puebla on Sept. 14, 2016. He died in the hospital the following day. In July 2017, authorities executed a second series of search warrants on the home of Juan Pedro Garrido Juárez, a fellow journalist identified as a suspect in the death. Garrido’s location, however, was unknown and the motive for the crime remains unclear.
