With just under six weeks left until the start of the IPI conference, “Oil, Gas and Media”, to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from September 17-19, 2012, we invite you to register today for this special event, if you have not done so already.

The two-and-a-half-day conference, to be held at the Kempinski Hotel Badamdar, Baku, will bring together leading energy reporters, business and financial journalists, major players in the oil and gas industry, experts and analysts to explore how public opinion, freedom of information and media relations all intersect with the oil and gas industries.

The latest additions to our roster of top speakers include:

Toyin Akinosho, a former Chevron employee and current publisher of Africa Oil+Gas Report. Based in Lagos, Nigeria, Akinosho, a 2007 CNN African Journalist of the Year award winner, will take part in the session titled, “Exploration, Extraction and Safety”, on Tuesday, September 18.

Panellists in this session will discuss why safety and spill-containment technology is not keeping pace with exploration and extraction technology, and ask what journalists can do to hold government regulators and oil companies accountable.

Kashmir Hill, a technology and social media expert at Forbes magazine. Hill, who recently wrote about the Shell oil hoax in the magazine, will moderate the session, “The Use of Social Media by Oil Companies in the Public Opinion Fight”, on Wednesday, September 19.
