IPI Turkey Committee elects İpek Yezdani as new chair

İpek Yezdani, a senior freelance journalist and lecturer at Bahcesehir University, was elected as the new Chair of the Vienna-based International Press Institute (IPI) Turkey National Committee in a vote held by committee members on May 7, 2024. Freelance journalist Gülsin Harman was elected as Vice Chair. İpek Özbey from SÖZCÜ TV and Sözcü daily newspaper was elected as Secretary General, and Uraz Kaspar, a lecturer at Kadir Has University and Yeditepe University, as well as Co-founder of Podfresh and Olmaz Media, was elected as Treasurer.

The management of the IPI Turkey National Committee stated that supporting quality journalism in Turkey and around the world, ensuring the necessary conditions for press freedom, and promoting financial sustainability of independent media will be priority areas in their work. They also expressed gratitude to Emre Kızılkaya, the previous Chair, and the previous management for their dedication and efforts.

Viyana merkezli Uluslararası Basın Enstitüsü (IPI) Türkiye Ulusal Komitesi Başkanlığı’na gazeteci İpek Yezdani seçildi. IPI Türkiye Ulusal Komitesi üyeleri tarafından 7 Mayıs 2024 tarihinde yapılan oylamada Gülsin Harman Başkan Yardımcısı, İpek Özbey Genel Sekreter, Uraz Kaspar ise Sayman olarak belirlendi.

IPI Türkiye Ulusal Komitesi yönetimi, Türkiye’de ve dünyada nitelikli gazeteciliğin desteklenmesi, basın özgürlüğü için gerekli koşulların sağlanması ve bağımsız medyanın finansal sürdürülebilirliği konularının öncelikli olarak çalışma alanı içinde yer alacağını bildirdi. Yeni yönetim ayrıca IPI Türkiye Ulusal Komitesi’nin bir önceki başkanı Emre Kızılkaya’ya ve bir önceki yönetime çalışma ve emeklerinden dolayı müteşekkir olduklarını açıkladı.
