Hungary: Media freedom at a crossroads ahead of election

As election approaches, IPI gathers media experts to discuss diverging paths ahead for press freedom

 

In this one-hour webinar, the International Press Institute (IPI) and the Media Freedom Rapid Response (MFRR) brought together leading Hungarian media experts and journalists ahead of th April 12 election in Hungary to analyse these diverging paths post-election and discuss different recommendations for long-term, democratic reform of the media landscape.

  • Bea Bodrogi, Hungarian media law expert and expert advisor at the Rule of Law Lab at New York University School of Law
  • Dr. Gábor Polyák, professor and head of the Department of Media and Communication at Eötvös Loránd University;  senior researcher of Mertek Media Monitor
  • Attila Mong, Europe representative at the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ)
