Garcia Gonzalez, 47, a freelance journalist, who contributed to the Dia7 and Nuevo Milenio publications, was shot dead on August 2, 2018, in the southern region of Valle de Santiago municipality in Guanajuato province of Mexico. Police are investigating the motive behind the murder, as Garcia covered social and religious events but did not cover crime or drug gangs.
