Media Freedom Rapid Response (MFRR) Summit 2025

European media freedom consortium to hold annual summit in Brussels

Event date:

Registration for the Media Freedom Rapid Response (MFRR) Summit 2025 is now officially open.

The MFRR is a organised by an alliance including IPI, the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF) and ARTICLE 19 Europe, the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), Free Press Unlimited (FPU) and CCI/Osservatorio Balcani Caucaso Transeuropa (OBC Transeuropa).

The summit will take place on 13 October 2025 in Brussels, bringing together leading journalists, policymakers, media experts, and civil society to address some of the most urgent challenges to press freedom in Europe.

In a climate shaped by disinformation, digital surveillance, hostile legislation, and shrinking media markets, the MFRR Summit 2025 will explore five key pillars of media resilience: economic viability, journalists’ safety, legal protection, AI governance, and the implementation of EU safeguards.

The event also feeds into ongoing EU Democracy Shield policy discussions, underlining that journalism is not only a public good, but an essential pillar of democratic life.

The MFRR tracks, monitors and reacts to violations of press and media freedom in EU Member States and Candidate Countries. This project provides legal and practical support, public advocacy and information to protect journalists and media workers. The project commenced in 2020 and is co-funded by the European Commission.
