As the impacts of climate change intensify, so too does the spread of climate disinformation, which threatens public understanding, undermines climate action, and deepens inequalities. African media face growing challenges in navigating and countering these disinformation campaigns, many of which are amplified by artificial intelligence (AI) and digital platforms.

In light of this, IPI, in collaboration with the Media Monitoring Africa (MMA), the South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF), the Forum on Information and Democracy (FID), and BrandSA will be hosting an event on July 24 under the title: Fighting Climate Dis-information: information integrity for climate change and the role of African media.

This hybrid event will explore how African journalists and media practitioners, fact-checkers, the general public, and media practitioners can defend information integrity while advancing truthful, justice-driven climate narratives. The programme will include a public dialogue featuring leading African media voices, international experts, and representatives from FID and IPI.
