The International Press Institute (IPI) has partnered with Austria’s Photographische Gesellschaft (PHG), publisher Edition Lammerhuber, UNESCO, the Austrian Parliament and the Austrian Parliamentary Reporting Association to present the 2014 Alfred Fried Photography Award for peace photograph of the year.

Submissions for the Award, which carries a prize of €5,000, will be accepted until Sept. 5, 2014 via the award’s website. Entry is free and open to entrants from anywhere in the world. Multiple entries are welcome.

Further information about the Award can be downloaded in English and in Deutsch.

Named for Austrian pacifist, author and 1911 Nobel Peace Prize recipient Alfred Hermann Fried, the Award recognises the year’s best photograph signifying the theme of peace. According to organisers, the award is intended to draw attention to that image in order “to remind us that peace is a top priority for felicitous coexistence”.

An international jury of experts will review entries and select five finalists, which will each receive the Alfred Fried Medal. The jury will then select one finalist as the Award winner, which will be displayed at Austria’s Parliament during the following year.

The Award will be presented during a gala ceremony hosted by Austria’s Parliament on Sept. 15, 2014 in advance of the International Day of Peace, marked annually on Sept. 21.
