On November 27, 2022, journalist Wilder Alfredo Córdoba was fatally shot by unknown perpetrators in La Unión, Nariño department, in southwestern Colombia. Córdoba was driving his motorcycle when gunmen shot him multiple times. The circumstances and motive behind the killing are yet to be established.
Córdoba was the director of the local channel La Unión TV and was known for reporting the challenges in the town of La Unión. He frequently posted reports on ongoing issues in the area on his social media, particularly related to crime. Córdoba had received several threats on social media, warning that he would “get into trouble” if he continued publishing his stories.
