Journalist Elisabeth Blanche Olofio, of Radio Be Oko in the Central African Republic, died from wounds sustained during a January 2013 Seleka rebel attack in the village of Bambari. The rebels attacked and destroyed Olofio’s home, reportedly in response to her reporting. She fled the village, but when she later returned, rebels confronted her and beat her. Initially thought to be dead, Olofio was later found alive in Bambari and taken to the capital city of Bangui, where she reportedly continued to suffer from serious mental and physical after-effects from the attack.
