Aye Kyaw, Myanmar

On July 30, 2022, photojournalist Aye Kyaw was arrested in his home in Sagaing region in Myanmar. Kyaw was taken into military custody for allegedly storing weapons on his property, despite none being found. Later the same day, Kyaw’s family received a call from local officials stating that Kyaw had died, Radio Free Asia reported. The cause of death is still unknown.

Kyaw was a member of the Upper Myanmar Photography Association and was known for documenting anti-junta protests that he shared on his social media channels.
