On 15 March 2025, the website of PTV, a TV channel based in Poltava, was reportedly hacked, with journalists at the outlet accusing Russian sources of being behind the incident. According to Ukraine’s Institute of Mass Information (IMI), a local press freedom group which reported on the case, hackers uploaded a video created with the help of artificial intelligence, in which a female character could be seen calling upon Ukrainians to organize a coup d’état and topple President Volodymyr Zelensky. Journalists at PTV told IMI that the website was able to return to normal operations soon after the start of the incident, thanks to support from the outlet’s technical team, and that specialists were working to restore the original versions of some of the articles published on the hacked website.
