On 9 May 2025, Ukrainian online outlet Ukrainska Pravda reported that an unknown source had hacked an email address used for contact with the outlet’s subscribers, and that this source distributed pro-Russian propaganda. A short message in Russian was sent to subscribers, in which Ukrainians were greeted with “our common victory”, in reference to the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in 1945. The sender also described current Ukrainian authorities as “an illegitimate regime”.
Ukrainska Pravda said that it did know how the source had gained access to the email address, and denied that the pro-Russian content had been sent by members of its editorial team. The outlet later reported that it was able to recover access to its email address.
