According to the local chapter of the Media Institute for Southern Africa (MISA) in Malawi, on September 15, a group of students at the Mzuzu University manhandled journalist Jonathan Pasungwi of the Nation Publications Limited (NPL). The students also seized his telephone by force and deleted all the pictures he took as part of his coverage of the students’ demonstration against an increase in student fees. MISA Malawi condemned the assault. In a press release on October 6, the office of the President of Mzuzu University Student Representatives Council (MUSREC) sent a letter of apology to Pasungwi.
