On 7 May 2026, hackers accessed the blog section of the Ukrainian news outlet Ukrainska Pravda and published Russian propaganda through several columnist accounts.

Ukrainska Pravda deputy chief editor Yevhen Buderatskyi said the hackers had gained access to some columnists’ passwords and used their accounts to publish the same propaganda text. According to Buderatskyi, the content of the post led the newsroom to conclude that Russian actors were behind the attack.

The propaganda post claimed that “nationalists” or “Nazis”, rather than Russia, were Ukraine’s main enemy. It was published from accounts belonging to several contributors, including Darya Kaleniuk, executive director and board member of the Anti-Corruption Action Centre, and writer Oksana Zabuzhko, vice president of PEN Ukraine. In Zabuzhko’s case, the propaganda text replaced one of her blog posts dating back to 2008.

Buderatskyi said Ukrainska Pravda’s technical team was working to address the consequences of the attack.
