On 15 April 2026, a Russian court sentenced Ukrainian journalist Oleksiy Homon in absentia to nine years in prison on charges of calls for terrorism, according to Russian independent outlet Mediazona.
The case concerned two interviews Homon conducted with journalist Rovshan Askerov. According to investigators, in the first interview, published in January 2023, Homon and Askerov allegedly “called on an unlimited number of people to encroach on the life” of the Russian leadership. In the second interview, published in July 2024, investigators alleged that Homon “called for financing terrorism.”
Homon is a presenter on Ukraine’s Rada TV channel. His interviews with various guests have also been published on the YouTube channel of Ukrainian journalist Dmitry Gordon.
