On 18 April 2022, Russian internet regulator and censor Roskomnadzor banned a number of Ukrainian news websites. The regulator considered that they had spread “fake news” on the actions of the Russian army in Ukraine and on problems with evacuating civilians. Among the media blocked were dev.ua, Apostrof, Censor, Hromadske Radio, Gazeta.ua, Segodnya and MigNews. Russia also blocked the website of the Institute of Mass Information, a Kyiv-based press freedom defense NGO .
