On 5 January 2026, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an entry ban against 28 Canadian citizens, including one journalist, for their support of Ukraine. The banned journalist was Walter (Volodymyr) Kish, who works as a correspondent for the New Pathway (Novyi Shlyakh) newspaper.

In its press release, the Ministry claimed that the banned individuals “promoted neo-Nazi ideology” and “tried to strengthen Canada’s connections with the most radical and irreconcilable nationalist forces in Ukraine”.

Since February 2022 and the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has issued travel bans against hundreds of politicians, activists and journalists from western countries, for their support of Ukraine and their condemnation of Russia’s war of aggression.
