On 13 October 2025, three media workers reporting for the German media group Welt were wounded in an attack by a Russian Lancet-type drone, according to multiple media reports. Lancets are long-range drones that are often used against tanks and armored vehicles.

The Russian attack killed a Ukrainian soldier and severely injured another one. Reporter Ibrahim Naber was hit in the ear by shrapnel, while local producer Ivan Zakharenko suffered two “moderate” shrapnel wounds in both legs. Freelance camera operator Victor Lysenko suffered a concussion.

The attack occurred in Ukraine’s eastern Dnipropetrovsk region, while the crew were filming a report about a Ukrainian air defense unit operating in the area. The strike occurred less than 30 kilometers from the front line, and had reportedly targeted the unit’s military vehicle. The journalists, who were wearing press markings, were “only a few meters” away from the three-person military crew that they had just interviewed at the time of the strike.
