On 30 August 2023, a film crew with Radio Svoboda, the Ukrainian-language service of U.S.-sponsored media corporation RFE/RL, came under fire while reporting in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region. The attack occurred during the day in the course of a Russian missile attack, at an unspecified location in the region. Camera operator Hanna Kudryavtseva, reporter Yevheniya Kytayiva and their driver Volodymyr Yavniuk were not injured in the incident. The car used by the reporting crew was, however, heavily damaged. Radio Svoboda said that Kudryavtseva and Kytayiva started working for the media outlet recently, but had extensive experience reporting from the front line in Donbas, Kudryavtseva since 2014 and Kytayiva since 2015. They had already been working together for seven years, the broadcaster reported. Yavniuk had been working with Radio Svoboda since 2021.
