Political party members assault journalists, damage work equipment

On February 17, 2024, members of a political party attacked journalists during the governorship primary election for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benin City, the capital of Edo State in the south. It was reported that at least three journalists were assaulted. Fortune Oyem, a reporter for the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, was slapped and lost his digital voice recorder while fleeing from the attackers. APC leaders pledged to rectify the damages inflicted by their supporters, but at the time of writing this pledge had not been fulfilled.
