On the morning of August 3, the offices of the Free Radio in Bakhmut, Donetsk region were subject to heavy shelling, which destroyed the building housing the outlet in its entirety. There were no casualties. The building had been evacuated at the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. In a statement announcing the destruction of the building, the executive director of Free Radio, Anastasia Shybiko, said that pro-Russian chats released information alleging that the offices were housing military personnel and that a number of Ukrainian soldiers were killed in the shelling. Shybiko stated that this showed the offices were targeted deliberately by the Russian forces. Free Radio had received a number of threats in the past months from unknown sources linked to its coverage of the war.
