Journalist Ousmane Mamane Toudou from Radio Anfani was arrested on April 13, 2024, apparently in connection with an article criticizing the disruption of democratic order following the coup d’état on July 26, 2023. He was previously the communication advisor for former presidents Mahamadou Issoufou and Mohamed Bazoum. On May 24, he was transferred to prison by a judge’s order and is facing charges of treason and conspiring against state security for an online article in which he urged pro-democracy advocates to oppose the military regime. He was released on July 9, from prison. However, the case is not yet dismissed.
