On 14 April 2023, Kyiv-based media rights defense group IMI (Institute of Mass Information) informed that it had detected a likely attempt at a cyber attack against its website. The group wrote that it had received over 340 subscription requests through a form available online, which all came from a unique email address. None of the information provided indicated that that the requests had influenced the functioning of the website. In its statement, IMI linked the likely attempted cyber attack to its work on uncovering Russian war crimes and to its publications on “aggressive propagandists in the Russian Federation”. IMI added that cyber attacks against group’s website were common, with the latest reported attempt dating to 25 March. The latest attack carried out with the use of IMI’s online subscription form took place in December, the group said.
