On September 12, police in Cameroon arrested and detained journalist Bertrand Ayissi of the media outlet L’Oeil du Sahel. This followed an investigative piece published on the alleged trafficking of human organs and bones in Adamaoua. The governor of the Adamaoua Region in Central Cameroon, Kildadi Taguieke Bouka, accused the journalist of disturbing the public order and being on the payroll of and manipulated by unknown individuals seeking to undermine the work of security services. The National Union of Journalists in Cameroon (SNJC) condemned the incident as an act of intimidation and an attempt to silence journalists and the media.
