In two different incidents, IPI documented assaults targeted at Thomas Dietrich, a French national and El Hadj Mané, a cameraperson for the online channel Flash Info were targeted with tear gas thrown at them by the anti-riots police. These two example attacks on journalists covering the public protests in Senegal, following the postponement of the elections are few among several others. The attacks underline the deterioration of the press freedom situation in Senegal, considered as a beacon of democracy and a relatively progressive press freedom country.
