On 7 October 2022, journalist Nadezhda Filinova at Udm-Info, a local news portal in the Russian region of Udmurtiya, was forced to quit her job for giving an interview to TV Rain, Russia’s most popular independent television channel. The interview took place several days earlier and concerned a shoot-out at a school in Izhevsk, the capital of Udmurtiya, in which 17 people were killed.

Filinova claims Editor-in-Chief of Udm-Info Alexey Chulkov spoke to her after her interview and asked her to write a resignation letter. According to Filinova, Chulkov said he himself would be fired from the 1M1 media holding Udm-Info is part of for contacts with TV Rain, and that 1M1 “clients” included United Russia, the party of president Vladimir Putin. Chulkov himself refused to comment on the case, saying it was an internal decision of the media group.
