Journalist Idriss Yaya murdered

On March 1, 2024, Idriss Yaya, a journalist for Radio Communautaire Mongo, was murdered by a group of nine individuals who stormed his home in Djondjol village. The intruders killed Yaya’s wife and his four-year-old son as well. Yaya had collaborated with a media outlet in an investigation that  reported on the acquisition of arms by a faction involved in intercommunity clashes. Before his death, Yaya had reported on these conflicts and had received threats due to his journalistic work. The nine individuals implicated in the journalist’s murder have been arrested, but have not been convicted and the investigation continues at the time of this report.
