On 27 May 2022, journalist Serhiy Zarayskiy received repeated calls with threats after publishing a critical war-related article on a regional news portal relating to the governor of Chernivtsi region. The calls, which came from anonymous numbers, contained threats to kill Zarayskiy and burn down his home and workplace.

The caller demanded that Zarayskiy stop publishing articles on the governor, arguing that “there is a war” going on. The journalist filed a complaint for threats, but the case was closed by police on September 30. However, the regional prosecutor’s office later informed that it had cancelled the police decision and that the case had been reopened.

UPDATE: On 19 April 2023, Zarayskiy informed that police had again decided to close the case into the threats against him, which the journalist had asked to investigate. He added that he did not intend to again ask for the reopening of the investigation.
