On 13 December 2023, the Foreign Broadcasting Service of Ukraine (known locally as Inomovlennya) received several phone calls throughout the day with threats related to its broadcasts. The incident was reported by Dim, one of the TV channels operated by the state-owned media corporation. The threats were reportedly made by an unknown man who called the official number of the broadcaster’s reception service several times. In his calls, the man also demanded to cease broadcasts of the FreeDom TV channel on YouTube. Inomovlennya contacted police about the case and passed on all information related to the incident, the broadcaster said in a statement.

Additonally, due to the threats, the media company’s employees were evacuated from premises due to a potential bomb threat. According to the broadcaster, both Dim and FreeDom TV channels continued to be broadcast without interruption throughout the duration of the incident. In its statement, Inomovlennya recalled that FreeDom, which aims to counter Russian propaganda and convey facts about Russia’s war against Ukraine to Russian-speaking audiences outside of the country, was in the past repeatedly attacked by Russian hackers.
