The family members of journalist Oleh Batyrin, a Ukrainian journalist and human rights defender from Kherson, were threated by Russian troops who demanded he stop his reporting. Batyrin, the editor-in-chief of the Novy Den media outlet, had previously been abducted and beaten by Russian troops before being released on March 20. On April 16, he said on Facebook that Russian troops in an occupied of Ukraine where his family lived were pressuring them with orders that he had to cease his writing. “My relatives that stayed on the temporarily occupied territory began to receive threats…. My family is very scared. The Russians demand that I cease my professional work in journalism,” he wrote.
