On 23 August 2024, Khrystyna Kotsira, the editor-in-chief of Ukrainian news outlet Hromadske, reported that the outlet’s website became inaccessible due to a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. Kotsira mentioned a criminal case that Russia had opened the day before against Hromadske’s war correspondent Diana Butsko, linking the DDoS attack to this case. Kotsira did not provide any additional information on the duration and extent of the attack.
According to Ukrainian press freedom group Institute of Mass Information (IMI), Hromadske’s website was accessible at 3:05 p.m. Kyiv time, approximately one hour after Kotsira published her post.
