On 22 September 2025, Vadym Khomenko, the chief engineer at Suspilne Kherson, was wounded by a Russian anti-personnel mine in central Kherson. He was reportedly injured when he walked through a pile of leaves, causing the device to detonate under his foot. Nearby colleagues administered first aid and he was transported to a hospital.
Suspilne Kherson’s editor Tetiana Yaremenko confirmed that Khomenko’s condition was stable after surgery, and that he did not risk losing his limb. She said it was “fortunate” that the explosion did not result in more severe injury, noting that the mine had been hidden and was difficult to detect due to leaves which had fallen on the ground.
