On 22 October 2025, journalist and presenter Daryna Trunova of Channel 24 reported that she became the target of a coordinated online harassment campaign following her Facebook post about the death of a man who had been mobilised into the Ukrainian army. According to Trunova, the man was apprehended by military recruitment personnel: as a result of mistreatment by officers, the man suffered a traumatic brain injury and died in hospital.

Shortly after her report, Trunova received abusive comments in comment threads under her Facebook post and in direct messages. One user, Alexey Osker, called her a “fat whore and TV presenter from 24 Channel, hyping on the murder of someone by military recruitment officers.” Others called her “microphone-stand” and a “propagandist”.

The media rights group Women in Media described the harassment as gender-based online violence, combining defamation, sexualised insults, victim-blaming and attempts to silence the journalist.
