Authorities imprison journalist Soumana Maiga over reporting on Russian surveillance equipment installation

On April 25, 2024, journalist Soumana Maiga from the L’Enquêteur newspaper was arrested by the police after his newspaper published a story about the alleged installation of surveillance equipment by Russian agents on official state buildings. He was detained over a month on a charge of “infringement of national defense.” However, on July 9, he was provisionally released. The case is still considered as pending, and if found guilty, he could face up to 10 years in prison.
