IPI co-sponsors webinar and panel discussion: Erosion of a free press

Session to be moderated by IPI North American National Committee co-chair

The International Press Institute (IPI) is co-sponsoring a panel discussion and ‘Webinar’ on the erosion of a free press, hosted by the University of Missouri’s Reynolds Institute of Journalism.

Other sponsors are the National Freedom of Information Coalition and the American Society of News Editors.

The session will feature the following speakers: Milton Coleman, deputy managing editor, The Washington Post; Lucy Dalglish, executive director, Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press; Philip Gailey, retired editor of editorials and vice president, St. Petersburg Times; and Toni Locy, former USA Today reporter charged with contempt for failing to disclose the identity of sources.

An introduction will be made by Charles Davis, executive director, National Freedom of Information Coalition, and the session will be moderated by Stuart Loory, Co-Chair of the IPI North American National Committee, and Lee Hills Chair in Free-Press Studies at the Missouri School of Journalism

The Webinar is being coordinated by IPI North American Committee Co-Chair Pat Smith, who is also the managing editor of Global Journalist, the magazine for the international news business published by the Missouri School of Journalism.

The Webinar will be streamed live on the website www.rjionline.org/GlobalJ at 3 PM CST (9 PM GMT/ 10 PM CET).
