Three men hacked blogger Washiqur Rahman Babu to death on a busy street in Dhaka on March 30, 2015. Two suspects apprehended near the scene reportedly told police that the murder came in retaliation for the blogger’s criticism of hard-line Islamists. He was the second blogger hacked to death in Bangladesh in 2015 whose name had appeared on a hit list of 84 “atheist bloggers” drawn up by Islamic extremist groups in 2013.
