Viktoria Marinova, 30, an anchor at TVN Television network who presented a current affairs talk programme, was killed in Ruse on October 6. Just before her murder she had conducted interviews with investigative journalists Dimitar Stoyanov from the Bivol.bg website and Attila Biro from the Romanian Rise Project, about an investigation into alleged fraud involving EU funds linked to big businessmen and politicians. A suspect, Severin Krassimirov, who was arrested on 9 October in the German town of Stade, told reporters he regretted taking the 30-year-old’s life during his first appearance in court on Friday. The police are investigating to determine if Krassimirov has been telling the truth.
