Moisés Sánchez Cerezo was abducted on Jan. 2, 2015 by a group of nine armed men in plainclothes who took him from his home in Medellin de Bravo, Veracruz. His body was found decapitated and disfigured in a ravine on the outskirts of the town on Jan. 24, 2015.

Sánchez published complaints by local residents in La Unión, a weekly funded by his work as a taxi driver and small business owner, and he posted updates related to local security on social media platforms.

According to family members, he received threats over the year preceding his death from Medellín de Bravo Mayor Omar Cruz and other unidentified individuals. Sánchez’s son said that his father had received a threat indicating he would be given “a scare” only three days before his disappearance.
