Al Jazeera announced in a statement that one of its correspondents, Mahran Al Deeri, was killed on Dec. 10, 2014 in the city of Sheikh Maskin amid fighting between rebels and pro-government forces. According to members of Al Deeri’s family quoted by the network, he died in a collision with another vehicle that occurred after he turned off his vehicle’s headlights to avoid detection by pro-government forces, which had been firing on him.
