The International Press Institute (IPI) will be honoured with the Press Freedom Award given by the Mayorship of Karşıyaka, a district of İzmir Province, and the İzmir Journalists Association (IGC) during a ceremony in Karşıyaka, Turkey on September 7, 2018. The award is being given in honour of IPI’s work to support independent journalism in Turkey, especially its I Subscribe campaign, which encourages readers from around the world to subscribe to Turkey’s remaining independent newspapers. This is the seventh year that the award has been given.

The award is expected to be presented by Karşıyaka Mayor Hüseyin Mutlu Akpınar and IGC head Misket Dikmen at the Hikmet Şimşek Art Center in Karşıyaka. IPI Executive Board member and Turkey National Committee Chair Kadri Gürsel will accept the award on IPI’s behalf, together with IPI Turkey Advocacy Coordinator Caroline Stockford and IPI Head of Advocacy Ravi R. Prasad. Minister Counsellor Simona Gatti from the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey will also attend the ceremony and offer remarks.
