Top editors from the International Press Institute (IPI)’s global network took part in the 2017 ASNE-APME News Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. to share insight on how the Trump administration’s aggressive approach to the press is having a ripple effect on other countries.

Panellists, including IPI Board member Daoud Kuttab, director general of the Community Media Network in Jordan, and IPI Board member Mahfuz Anam, editor and publisher of the Daily Star in Bangladesh, discussed the effects of a potential loss of U.S. leadership on press freedom issues.

The discussion – entitlted “How the World Sees US: Press Freedom in Trump Era” – was moderated by IPI Chair John Yearwood, former world editor of the Miami Herald, and IPI Board member Marty Steffens, a professor at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

The ASNE-APME News Leadership Conference ran from Oct. 8 – 11 in Washington, D.C. For more information about the conference, visit the ASNE website.
